Jan Lipavský (independent) has served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Czechia since December 17, 2021. Before entering politics, he worked in the private sector in banking and information technology. From 2017 to 2021, he represented the Pirate Party as a member of the Czech Parliament, where he focused on foreign policy and security issues. During his parliamentary term, he was Vice-Chair of both the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defence Committee. He also served on the Permanent Commission for Hybrid Threats, the Subcommittee on Defence, Cybersecurity, and Security Policy, as well as the Subcommittee on Migration and Asylum Policy. Lipavský's focus on security is evident in the policies he promotes as Foreign Minister. Internationally, he is recognized as one of Europe’s leading advocates for Ukraine. He authored Czechia's "Magnitsky Act," aimed at strengthening the enforcement of human rights protections. For this initiative, he received the Magnitsky Human Rights Award in 2022. In 2023, under his initiative, the Czech Security Strategy was updated and approved by the government. Under Lipavský's leadership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also prioritized strategic communication, actively contributing to Czechia's defense against hybrid threats.
